A lift chair could be considered medically necessary if all of the following coverage criteria are met:
  1. You have severe arthritis of the hip or knee, or have a neuromuscular disease.
  2. The seat lift mechanism must be a part of the physician's course of treatment and be prescribed to effect improvement, or arrest or retard deterioration in the patient's condition.
  3. You must be completely incapable of standing up from a regular armchair or any chair in your home. Once standing, you must have the ability to ambulate (walk).
You may receive Medicare or other Insurance reimbursement for seat and power lift chairs. Please contact your insurance provider to be sure. Lift chairs can be purchased with cash at retail dealerships or by a combination of cash and insurance.
